Home Remedies For Diarrhea

Diarrhea is a common health problem that afflicts a normal person at least twice a year resulting in loose watery stools, painful abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. Diarrhea can be either chronic or acute.

While acute diarrhea is usually short term and can be treated easily, chronic diarrhea can only be treated after proper medical intervention. Acute diarrhea is quite common and is caused by eating bacteria contaminated food, excessive vitamin C, artificial sweeteners and certain antibiotics.

One of the best ways of treating diarrhea is by providing the patient with adequate fluids and water. Watery stools along with vomiting can lead to fluid and essential salts being depleted in the body.

Along with plenty of water, drink soups and broths, coconut water and barley water to increase the fluid level in the body. Avoid coffee, tea and sweet juices of pear and apple as it can worsen your condition considerably.

You can also mix a table of cleansing apple cider vinegar in water and sip this solution slowly. The vinegar cleans the stomach and helps in treating minor case of diarrhea. In addition to this you can also mix some homey with water and sip this throughout. This is excellent for digestive tract and helps in curing diarrhea

Ginger juice is also believed to be excellent for treating diarrhea. Mix ginger juice with some hot water or combine it with half a tablespoon of lemon juice or kelp and black pepper powder to cure diarrhea. A cup of ginger tea or refreshing chamomile tea is also considered to be beneficial for curing diarrhea.

Mix a teaspoon of nutmeg powder with lemon juice or eat probiotic foods such as yogurt or miso to cure diarrhea. You can roast cumin and fenugreek seeds and powder them. Mix this with the yogurt and have after regular intervals

A BRAT diet consisting of bananas, rice specifically brown rice, applesauce and toast is excellent for treating diarrhea. Applesauce and bananas are a rich source of pectin and potassium, which is essential for treating diarrhea and treat electrolyte loss in the body. Along with this the fiber rich brown rice and toast help in reducing the frequency of stool movements and treat diarrhea. Avoid hard to digest foods like cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.
