Home Remedies For Sore Throat

Your throat feels scratchy and painful especially while swallowing. This could be caused by sore throat or the inflammation of the pharynx. Commonly caused by ailments such as cold and flu, sore throat might also be the result of bacterial and viral infections.

Shouting too loudly, smoking allergies and infections such as tonsillitis, measles, leukemia, and diphtheria are some common causes that cause painful itchy sore throat.

Treating this minor ailment at home is easy. Moreover the home remedies for sore throat are fairly safe and can be used a number of times without having to worry about any ugly side effects associated with cold medications.

One of the best ways to get rid of sore throat is by gargling with warm water to which some salt and turmeric has been added. The salt helps in cutting down the phlegm and relieves throat inflammation. You can also boil basil or sage leaves in water and use this as a gargle to relieve sore throat. Do this every two to three hours to get immediate relief.

Honey contains antimicrobial and antiseptic properties and is thus one of the best home remedies for sore throat. Mix honey with water and some lemon juice and drink this for immediate sore throat relief.

You can also drink a mix of honey with boiled water to which cinnamon and pepper has been added.  Crush four cloves of garlic and mix it with honey and some cayenne powder. Take a spoonful of this clove and honey mixture to cure sore throat.

Apple cider vinegar is also believed to cure painful sore throat. Mix it with warm water and honey and drink the solution. Herbal and green tea is also an excellent sore throat reliever. Ginger tea, lemon tea or chamomile tea has known to provide relief from sore throat pain and clear the mucus in throat.

In addition to this drink enough fluids, use a vaporizer in the room and take plenty of rest. This will keep your throat lubricated and help you recover from sore throat faster than any medication. Also avoid smoking and spicy foods that can irritate your throat.

  1. I always drink tea with lots of lemon and honey in it. Also, there is a tea company called Gypsy Cold care and they have a tea that is called Throat Coat. You can get it in most health food sections/stores. It works well.
    If it doesn't get better soon, you will want to be checked for Strep Throat since it's in season for that. You don't want to let Strep go because it can turn into Scarlet Fever. sexual health
