Home Remedies for Toothache

Almost everyone has suffered from the excruciating pain associated with toothache. A decaying tooth, gum infections, fractured teeth and tooth root sensitivity are some of the common factors that can result in a bad toothache. Sometimes ear infections or sinusitis can also lead to the agonizing pain. While there are a number of over the counter solutions that help you to deal with toothache, you can also try some simple home remedies to deal with toothache.

Applying clove oil to the infected tooth is one of the simple remedies of toothache. Add a few drops of clove oil to a cotton swab and place it on the affected area. This not only numbs the pain but also restricts the infection as well. If you do not find clove oil, then simply chew a clove. As you chew the juices seep into the tooth and provide relief from the pain. You can also mix some pepper powder with the clove oil for instant relief from tooth pain.

The juice of onion and wheat grass is also considered to be effective in treating toothache. Place a small piece of onion on the affected tooth and allow the juices to seep in. The onion juices destroy the germs that cause cavity and provide relief from toothache.

Garlic is an excellent antiseptic and antibacterial remedy that can provide instant relief from cavity pain. Just crush a clove of garlic and keep it over the infected tooth. For severe case of toothache you can try using garlic capsules instead of fresh garlic cloves.

For instant relief from the pain, try using ice compresses. Place it on the outer side of the mouth to numb the pain and stop the spread of bacteria in the mouth. It is important to keep in mind that while your tooth is aching it is best to avoid any hot foods as the heat can lead to the bacteria spreading in the mouth.

While these home remedies can provide temporary relief from the pain, they can by no means substitute medical treatment especially if there are holes in the tooth or the pain is accompanied by pus and bleeding. Moreover with regular brushing and gargling with hydrogen peroxide mouthwash, it is easy to avoid the extreme pain associated with toothache.
