Home Remedies for Treating Head Lice Infection
Treatment of Head Lice with Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a very effective treatment for head lice. You can apply the gel on the scalp and leave it on for about an hour before washing off your hair. Make sure that you do not shampoo the hair on the same day for maximum results. Do this every day for two weeks for removing the infection completely.
Treatment of Head Lice with Mayonnaise
This is a simple treatment that can be done at any home. Apply mayonnaise on the scalp and massage thoroughly. Cover the scalp using a plastic bag and allow it to remain for an hour. After that, use a hair dryer for heating the head. Wash the hair and use hair get. The lice and the nits would have smothered and died by now. You may remove them by combing your hair using a fine comb that is dipped in vinegar. Do this twice or thrice a week till all the lice are dead and the nits are removed from the scalp.
Treatment of Head Lice with Vinegar
Vinegar can be used to remove the nit glue and remove it from the hair. For this you can dip a comb used for removing nits and brush your hair using this. The glue will be dissolved and the nits come off easily. This can be done many times to remove the nits effectively. For nits that are glued firmly, you may mix vinegar and mineral oil and apply this mixture on the scalp and hair. Use a shower cap to keep the vinegar from evaporating. You can do this treatment many times until all the nits are removed and the lice stops spreading.
Treatment of Head Lice with Lemon and Butter
Lemon and butter will have the same smothering effect of Mayonnaise. Lemon juice must be mixed with butter to form a thick paste. Apply this on the scalp, massage and leave it for half an hour. Rinse your head after that and use a nit comb to remove the dead lice and nit. You can also dip the comb in vinegar to dissolve the nit glue if any left and remove all the nits effectively.
Treatment of Head Lice with Neem
Neem has great power to stop hatching of eggs and prevent head lice from breeding. Neem is capable of aping insect hormones which confuses the lice and prevent them from eating and reproducing. For treatment with neem, you can use neem oil or leaves. Apply neem oil on the hair and massage it thoroughly. Leave it for an hour and cover with a shower cap. Wash it off after an hour. Use a nit comb to remove the lice and the nit.
You can mix olive oil and neem oil in the ratio of 2:1 and apply on the head for the same effect. If using neem leaves, crush them to form a paste and apply on the scalp and head. Leave it till it dries. The dried neem will trap all the lice and destroy them. Use a nit comb with vinegar to brush off the nits after that.
Treatment of Head Lice with Custard Apple
Grind custard apple along with the big seeds to form a fine paste. Massage it into your hair and leave it on overnight. You can cover your hair with a towel. Wash it off in the morning and shampoo your hair. Remove the nits and lice using a nit comb.
Treatment of Head Lice with Olive Oil
Massage the hair in olive oil and leave it on the hair overnight. In the morning you can wash the oil off and use white vinegar on the hair. Massage it in to dissolve the nit glue and leave it for ten minutes. Remove the olive oil with water and use a nit comb to brush out all the loose nits. You can do this twice a week to remove all the lice and nits within a few days. Olive oil makes it difficult for the lice to move around and suffocates them to death.
Treatment of Head Lice with Garlic and Lemon Juice
Take 4-5 cloves of garlic and make it into a paste. Garlic can be made into a paste and applied directly. You may also mix garlic oil with lemon juice for the same effect. Garlic has antibacterial properties which kills the bacteria present in the gut of head lice. This will prevent digestion of food by the head lice and kills them ultimately. Lemon juice will remove all the dead cells on the scalp and make your hair and scalp clean.
Head lice are irritating and scratchy. It has to be removed completely to prevent further episodes of infection. You must also disinfect your sheets, pillows and personal items which would still have nits that can infect again and cause problems.
